Writers in the Sky, 2007

An intimate author event in Telluride Colorado.

Each year the Wilkinson Public Library hosts Writers in the Sky, a writers’

conference that brings five world-class writers to Telluride.

For Immediate Release — September 6, Telluride Colorado. Confirmed this year

for the Writers in the Sky (WITS) event, October 6, at the Wilkinson Public Library, are authors:

Mark Spragg

Margaret Coel

H.L Hix

Mike Perry

Carol Berg

Each is an award-winning author.

Mark Spragg’s most famous novel is An Unfinished Life, a book made into a

feature film in 2005 by Miramax, starring Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman.

Spragg also wrote the screenplay adaptation of his novel.

Margaret Coel is a judge turned mystery writer. Her legal expertise helps her

craft compelling thrillers; mysteries that stretch from the four-corners into courtrooms.

Her Wind River Mystery series (now at 13 books) is set on the Wind River reservation

of the Arapaho. She has won the Colorado Book award four times.

H.L Hix is the award-winning poet who directs the MFA Creative Writing program at

University of Wyoming. His poetry won him the T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize and earned him a

Fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts, among other awards he’s won. Hix will

lead the creative writing workshop the Sunday following WITS, open to all WITS ticket-holders.

Mike Perry is the author of the breakaway sensation Population 485 — Meeting Your Neighbors

One Siren at a Time, which garnered him national fame. A lifelong humorist, Perry has a compelling

standup routine. He is a regular contributor to magazines like Esquire, Outside, and Orion. He

recently recorded his first acoustic album, Headwinded.

Carol Berg is a writer of epic fantasy novels. Her Song of the Beast won the Colorado Book

Award in 2003. A high school math teacher with a penchant for literature, Berg found her talent

while raising three sons at home. Her books have been translated into five languages.

Each author will speak for about an hour.

The following Sunday (Oct. 7) from 10am till noon, H. L. Hix will lead

a creative writing workshop for WITS ticket-holders.“Meet the faces behind the names,” says WPL

Program Coordinator Ben Williams. “Its [WITS’] intimacy and candor
are unmatched. It’s interesting to meet authors, and find they’re human after all. Maybe they had

trouble finding that agent. Maybe getting published wasn’t easy. But, in the end, they stand before

you as testament that endurance and confidence are at least as important as talent in the writing biz.

Hear their own tales. You’ll be intrigued.”
